Been a busy week, mostly working on my startup company tech tasks, with a little packing thrown in and all the spare time taken up by watching the Junkyard Wars marathon I'd snagged on TiVo last week. The amphibious vehicle race was a hoot.
I move Saturday and I still haven't really finished packing nor have I scheduled a truck rental. I should probably schedule some strong back rental too.
I can't believe I'm moving in with my ex-girlfriend. If San Francisco had anything approximating normal rental situations I would never be doing this!

OK, so Saturday night consisted of going to see Uriah play at Shanghai 1930. It's a bit of a well-to-do place near the Ferry Building. Afterwards I went with his crew to Mission Rock for in China Basin. Seemed to be mostly the off-duty stripper crowd and the people who love them.
Sunday I hit Thai Brunch just before the vegetarian dishes ran out (nick of time I tell you). If you've never been to Thai Brunch check it out sometime. It's an outdoor brunch every Sunday at the Berkeley Thai Community Center. One block North of the Ashby BART station on Russell Street. Sometimes they have traditional Thai music and dance performances, and they always have tons of authentic traditional Thai food, but try to get there before 1pm when things start to run out.
Afterwards I hit Mission Rex for a punk show my bio-bro Marcus told me about. It was a great show, absolutely packed and lots of energy. I need to get to more punk shows, although I'm feeling a bit too old and fragile to survive the mosh pit, it's great to see people becoming involved with a show after years of indie rock posers doing the Chapel Hill nod dance.

Yesterday I rode up to Tilden Park and hiked a little, then stopped in Berkeley for a veggie burrito and caught the new documentary Dark Days. It's an interesting movie about "homeless" people in New York who built a city along undergound railway tunnels using products discarded by the topsiders. They had tapped into the power lines for electricity, it was impressive.
Afterwards I went to a freaky play about serial murderesses at Venue 9, then I hit Cafe Prague in hopes of catching some jazz, but there was no band so after a cup of Mocha I wandered around North Beach, finally settling into some yuppie joint with a septugenarian Big Band-ish quintet.
Walking back to my bike I heard someone shout my name out of a car window, turned out it was Uriah who had just left a jazz gig at someplace called Shanghai Something. Said he was playing again tonight, I might go check it out if I can find it.
By the way, that movie I saw last week at the Werepad was the best one I'd seen there. Check it out sometime, it's called Candy and is a free love parody of Candide. Awesome cast: Marlon Brando, Walter Matthau (both younger and hornier than you might know them as).

Crap. Two weeks. Let's see.
OK, There was that business trip to North Carolina. Caught a red-eye, landed at 6:30am, left at 6pm. Day full of strategy sessions and architecture design. And the freaking guy who was supposed to fly in from Atlanta to meet me (it's the whole reason i went out there) didn't make it because his boss's personal pilot for his personal fucking jet was fogged in at Nashville.
Then after that I made my first trip to Las Vegas. Unfortunately it was during Comdex. I'll never make that mistake again. Vegas locals hate Comdexers, and it showed. Left up $70, mostly from the $1 craps table. It was a fun 3 days, need to go back.
Somewhere in there was a night with the Popcorn Anti-Theater Bus. Ended up hanging out with a reporter from the Chronicle the whole night since my "date" stood me up, it was fun although he only quoted the most banal things I said in the story. Some girl was hitting on me but I was in one of those too-drunk-to-concentrate modes (A.A.D.D.) so I didn't even get her name. She was all soft and fuzzy. Like a russian sugarmama.
Been working hard this week, preparing for a meeting in San Bruno Monday. Talking possible merger with another company; Last night I hacked out a WAP interface for our system to gee-whiz 'em.
Now it's time to head to the werepad, ciao now brown cow..

Caught the Fresh Robots again tonight at the Punchline. Personally I prefer the Mock Cafe as a venue. These guys are great, hopefully they aren't too smart to make it in the inane entertainment sphere they lampoon so well. Catch them while you can....
Before hand I went to this Sci-Fi reading. It was odd. There were about eight of us there including the author and store staff. And of course we were all a bunch of trenchcoat/leather dressed-in-black socially-strained geeks so it got a little awkward at times with such an intimate group. I bought two of the guy's books, since he read well.
On the way to the Punch Line a crowd was spilling out into the street. They were watching some sort of dance performance, so I pulled over and stood precariously on my motorcycle seat to see over their heads. It was some sort of flame twirling burning-man sort of thing happening on the sidewalk. There was a VW bus loaded with equipment playing video (live I think) on a make shift screen behind them. The crowd was mostly yuppies, it was a little odd. I took some photos, maybe I'll post them later.

I was just on the napster, grabbing a Fantastic Plastic Machine album and I started browsing some user's files. There were about 30 Barbara Streisand songs, a folder called "Show Tunes" and the first song in the techno folder was "Barbie Girl" by Aqua. This strikes me as kind of funny so I fire off a message:
me: you have the gayest music collection I've ever seen on napster!
tsail24: yeah well its more than youll ever have so SHUT UP and leave me alone%#
me: sorry, don't get your panties in a wad. i wasn't being derisive, i was just commenting....

Sorry about that tsail24, wish you would have stuck around for an apology or further wordplay. But hey I really enjoyed the beatle bailey cussing!

It is so hard to keep up with this journal. and don't have a lot of time now, but coming soon ( I mention this so I will remember later): the burning man decompression party, the haunted barn, the incredibly expensive sterile dirty anime party on Potrero Hill, the Werepad Halloween party, Jesse and Rachel's spooky party at 150 Folsom, Anti Popcorn Theater, 21 Grand in Oakland. Yes I think that's it
