The Long Emergency

Powells Books - The Long Emergency: Surviving the Converging Catastrophes of the Twenty-First Century by James Howard Kunstler A few weeks ago I ran across an interesting story online: The Long Emergency. It is regarding the looming Peak Oil crisis and is an excerpt from a book of the same name. When speaking with a friend in NYC, he told me he had already read this book and spoke with an aquaintance of his who is a retired petroleum geologist about it. He told my friend that Peak Oil is a fact, it probably has already been reached, and that the petroleum industry has been aware of it for ten years. The book details the global energy situation and looming crisis, and then apparently goes into a post crisis scenario that the author feels will be the likely result. I'm going to take his prognostications about feudal agrarian society with a grain of salt, but it should make for an intersting read.
