The Oakland activist hip hop group The Coup and their tourmates Mr Lif out of Philadelphia were in a nearly deadly bus crash outside of San DIego last week. Luckily no one lost their lives, but they lost nearly everything else except the clothes on their back, including their instruments of course, and a few of them have fairly serious injuries.
I first heard about The Coup from a friend who raved about their show in Chapel Hill, NC last year. I downloaded some mp3s online which got me to to buy a ticket to their show at The Independent last month. Usually I consider my karmic price for "illegal downloads" paid when I buy a ticket to the show, but a direct route feels even better.
